Robinson's Gix named Louisiana Exemplary Educator for Ouachita Parish

The Ouachita Parish School District is proud to announce Kristen Gix as the 2024 Louisiana Exemplary Educator for Ouachita Parish.

Gix, a Master Teacher with a focus on Mathematics, is employed at Robinson Elementary School and was nominated by principal Angela Spivey and district leaders across the parish.

Superintendent Todd Guice surprised Gix with the news during class on Tuesday and was accompanied by Anthony Killian, Director of Federal Programs, Dr. Felicia Sledge-Murphy, TItle I Supervisor, and Curtis Pate, Director of Elementary Schools, Curriculum, Testing and Accountability.

"It means a lot," Gix said. "I really am surprised that all these people thought so much of me because I really am an in-the-background kind of person, but it means a lot that everyone sees that my heartbeat is definitely wherever the students are, and whatever is going to make them better."

The Louisiana Exemplary Educator Recognition Program was created to acknowledge, honor and spotlight exceptional early- to mid-career teachers, teacher specialists, assistant principals and principals, who exemplify Louisiana's education profession.

"I never feel like I'm at work when I'm teaching, especially when I'm around the kids," Gix said. "I'm in a different position this year, which is also great because when I touch the teachers, that, in turn, touches the kids. I really love it."
