Two Ouachita Parish School System students have been named Region 2 Students of the Year. Congratulations to Madison Nelson of Ouachita Junior High School and Drew Thomas of West Ouachita High School. The two will continue on to compete for state honors. “We are very proud of our students," said Superintendent Don Coker. "These two young people are excellent representatives of our community. We wish them all the best in their next level of competition!”

The Student of the Year Awards program is a statewide competition for students in fifth, eighth, and twelfth grades. Students are first chosen at their respective schools through nomination and voting by fellow students. Then, the school representatives undergo an interviewing and testing process in competition for the top parish titles. Once chosen at parish level, the students test and interview for regional and then state honors. State winners will be announced during a recognition ceremony in Baton Rouge on April 5.
