LDOE recognizes 6 Ouachita Parish teachers as Teacher Leader Advisors

The Louisiana Department of Education formally acknowledged its Teacher Leader Advisors for the 2023-24 school year this week.

Ouachita Parish ranks in the state’s Top 5 in total teachers selected and is tied for 1st in the amount of teachers selected from parishes in North Louisiana. Caddo Parish also had six selected.

The six teachers from Ouachita Parish are Amanda Bonney (Mathematics, West Ouachita High School), Amy Cady (STEM & Biology, West Monroe High School), Rachel Hendricks (Social Studies, Drew Elementary), Benjamin Hobson (Sterlington Middle School, STEM & Mathematics), Lainey Hodge (Mathematics, Sterlington High School) and Emily Lincecum (English Language Arts, Ouachita Parish Central Office).

As integral members of a distinguished group of educators spanning over 40 parishes, Teacher Leader Advisors play a crucial role in elevating educational standards and ensuring that educators statewide have access to high-quality instructional materials, resources, and curriculum-aligned professional development. In addition to contributing to the LDOE's initiatives, Teacher Leader Advisors:

● receive year-round specialized training

● develop a deep understanding of curricular and instructional best practices

● are compensated for completed projects

● network and collaborate with peer educators

● grow and share their expertise with other educators across the state

Their collective efforts have significantly impacted and improved instruction for every teacher and student throughout the state.

Over the past year, Teacher Leader Advisors have:

● meticulously created 40 new guides for implementing math curricula

● helped the LDOE to improve all of the social studies course frameworks by making the primary sources accessible for teachers and students

● developed the Let’s Set the Context videos for 15 ELA Guidebook Units (and counting!) and completed text reviews of 27 ELA Guidebook texts

● presented over 49 sessions at the 2023 Teacher Leader Summit.

The sacrifices and commitment to excellence demonstrated by our Teacher Leader Advisors are truly commendable and appreciated. We invite you to join us in expressing gratitude and recognition to this exceptional group of educators.
