BOARD BRIEFS: November Board Meeting

The Ouachita Parish School Board recognized two West Ouachita Future Farmers of America (FFA) students on Tuesday during a regular board meeting.

Jace Atchison and Colin Sebren were selected to the 2024 National FFA Chorus. Atchison and Sebren are the only students selected from the state of Louisiana, and only 80 national FFA students receive this honor.

Policy Updates

The School Board was presented with updates to the following policies — notification of school board meetings, broadcasting and taping of school board meetings, employment of the superintendent, architectural and engineering services, personnel records, use of pronouns and given names, recruitment, sex education, education of students with exceptionalities and student health services.

These policy updates comply with changes to state law made during the 2024 Louisiana Legislative Session. The School Board will vote on whether to adopt the updated policies at a later date.

Construction Change Orders

The School Board approved a change order to the baseball field and softball field renovation projects at West Ouachita. Additional work totaling $110,150 was approved to add artificial turf to the indoor baseball and softball hitting facilities.
