All three Students of the Year representing Ouachita Parish are moving on to the Regional round of competition, following the Zone level results on Tuesday.
Elementary Student of the Year Aly May (Drew Elementary), Middle School Student of the Year Josie Borden (Calhoun Middle), and High School Student of the Year Colton Brasher (West Monroe High) were named the Ouachita Parish Students of the Year in November after competing amongst their peers on their respective grade levels.
Each student is among less than 50 students statewide in their grade level to move on to the Regional Round.
In conjunction with the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE), the Department recognizes outstanding fifth, eighth, and twelfth-grade students who have demonstrat excellence in leadership, academic performance, achievements, citizenship, and service to the school and community through the Students of the Year program.
Regional honorees were selected through public, charter, and nonpublic zone reviews per each BESE region. From this outstanding group of students, one honoree per BESE region will be named a finalist. Finalists will be announced later in the school year and celebrated at an awards ceremony where the overall honorees, one per grade level, will be named.
