Congratulations to Robbie Evans, Science teacher at Sterlington Middle School, in receiving the PAEMST Award.
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and computer science teaching.
The Awards were established by Congress in 1983, and The President may recognize up to 108 exemplary teachers each year. Awards are given to teachers from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and other territories.
The award recognizes those teachers who have both deep content knowledge of the subjects they teach and the ability to motivate and enable students to be successful in those areas. Awardees reflect the expertise and dedication of the Nation's teaching corps, and they demonstrate the positive impact of excellent teachers on student achievement.
For the PAEMST Award, teachers are selected at the state and jurisdiction level as State Finalists. Robbie was rcognized as the 2020 Louisiana Science Finalist, and now as the 2020 National Presidential Award of Excellence Honoree! Robbie will receive a certificate signed by the President of the United States, a $10,000 award from National Science Foundation, and attend an award ceremony with the White House. In addition, awardees join a national cohort of award-winning teachers, providing opportunities to impact teaching on a national scale.
