Teachers honored as finalists for Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science

Ouachita Parish teachers Lainey Hodge (Sterlington High School) and Jamie Mosley (Riser Middle School) were recognized in Baton Rouge on Wednesday as finalists for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Both educators are Mathematics teachers and were honored at the BESE (Board of Elementary and Secondary for Education in Louisiana) Meeting.

The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics teaching. The Awards were established by Congress in 1983.

The award recognizes those teachers that have both deep content knowledge of the subjects they teach and the ability to motivate and enable students to be successful in those areas.
